Where to find it

This page describes some of the key sections of our website to help you find the information you need.

On this page:

How businesses can comply with the law

To learn more about how to ensure your business complies with the laws administered and enforced by the Competition Bureau, consult the following sections:

In the first three sections, you’ll find descriptions of unlawful or anti-competitive practices, penalties for non-compliance, and recommendations on how to ensure compliance with the law.

If you would like to read about the results of our investigations into those issues, consult “Cases and outcomes” in each of these sections.

The labelling section focuses on labelling requirements:

What must be on the label and where it must be placed.

What must appear on the label, the different types of labels, and how they should be applied, plus specific requirements for items that contain fibre, down, or feathers.

Even though it is not mandatory, if a mark indicating the quality of an item (a quality mark) is applied to items made of gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, it must comply with the requirements described in this section.

For more in-depth information on any of these subjects, refer to the documents listed under “Further reading” at the bottom of most of the pages in the above sections.

Find out about fraud and scams

Learn more about scams targeting consumers and businesses: how they work, how to spot them, and how to protect yourself. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! And, don’t forget, it’s important to always report fraud.

If you are planning a merger or acquisition

Do you need to give us advance notification about your proposed merger? This section includes information about the criteria for notification (such as party-size and transaction-size thresholds), the review process (including waiting periods), and possible outcomes. We encourage all parties to a merger that requires advance notification to seek legal advice.

If you’re interested in reading the results of merger reviews, refer to “Position statements regarding concluded merger reviews”.

If you have a question or suggestion, or want to report a suspicious practice

We’re here to help. You can contact us online, by phone, by mail or fax to share information or request the information you need. For example, you can ask about how to obtain a CA Identification number, request an information session, report a suspicious practice, suggest a sector of the economy that you think we should examine, or find out how to participate in a consultation.
